The 50th wedding anniversary is traditionally called the Golden Anniversary, sometimes also referred to as the Golden Jubilee. The name comes from the tradition of marking fifty years of marriage with gold — the metal associated with endurance, rarity, and lasting value. 'Golden anniversary' and '50th wedding anniversary' are used interchangeably.
The traditional symbol for the 50th wedding anniversary is gold — both as a material and as a colour. The traditional gemstone is yellow diamond or yellow topaz, and the traditional flower is the yellow rose, sometimes called the 'golden anniversary rose.'
